How to prepare for Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and it's time to get your home ready for all of those trick-or-treaters. Here are some fantastic ideas that can help you transform your home into a scary sight that will have all of the neighborhood kids begging for candy!

Halloween Day

1) Suspended Skeleton

This one is simple and inexpensive. All you need is a skeleton and some rope to create this spooky decoration. Simply tie up the string and hang it in a doorway or on your porch. The children will love pretending to be scared when they see it!

2) Zombie Portrait

This eerie portrait makes my skin crawl! To make this, paint a picture and then use some string to make it look like the face is peeling. You can add any eyes you want and give it your personality!

3) Slime

For this decoration, all you need is Elmer's glue and water to create the slime that I made here. Once you mix, just put it in a large bowl or pot and then drizzle strings of goo around your porch. This one creates quite a mess so be careful where you put it!

4) Dangling Body Bag

Nothing says 'Trick or Treat' better than somebody in a body bag hanging from their ankle. When the children come out in search of candy, pop out from the bushes and scare them with this decoration!

5) Rat Decapitation

This is my favorite one. Take an old doll, rip off its head, and superglue fake rats to both ends. The children will love the gross look of the decapitated rat!

6) Vampire Bat Mummies

I've always wanted to make mummies but every time I try, they turn out looking like pathetic raccoons rather than ancient Egyptian royalty. If you're better at art than me, then this idea can be just what you need to liven up your home for Halloween! All you have to do is create bat-shaped mummy bandages and wrap them around teddy bears or real people! The best part about this decoration is that you can take it off the wall and scare the children with it if they approach your porch.

7) Fog Machine

Halloween would not be complete without fog creeping up on unsuspecting trick-or-treaters. What better way to do it than to set up a fog machine? You can find them for sale at all hardware stores, but I got my Halloween one here. Make sure to put it in the bushes so that when kids walk by, they get freaked out!

8) Spider Webs

Decorate your home with spider webs using only Elmer's glue and water. If you want, you can add some glow-in-the-dark paint to make it more frightening. Just be sure not to get the glue and water on your clothes because it will create a stain!

9) Dead Trees

For this decoration, all you need is plastic skeletons and white Christmas lights. Tie up some of the lights in your trees or bushes and then place the skeletons around them so that they look like ghosts floating in midair! This one is my favorite.

10) Skull Fire Pit

To finish off your home's exterior for Halloween, I recommend building a fire pit and burning some skulls inside of it! You can buy human skull replicas at most shops (I got mine here ) and place them around the fire pit. If you want, you can also add some dry ice to make smoke that looks like ghosts rising from the ground!

These are just a few of my favorite ideas for decorating your home this Halloween. I hope that they help give you an idea or two because if your home looks scary, then everyone is sure to give out more candy! Happy Tricking/Trick-or-Treating!
