Top 10 best action movies
Everyone loves to see a good fight whether it's in the movies or real life. Action movies are one of the most popular types of movies because people love watching fights and other "action" scenes come to life before them on screen. It's amazing to watch an actor perform some incredible stunt whether it be jumping off of tall structures, fighting hordes of men at once or just doing something that seems impossible. Some actors can do these incredible stunts while others have to rely on computer graphics but either way someone must act out what we as audiences want to see: violence and mayhem!
The best action movies
10. American Sniper -
American Sniper is a biographical war drama about Chris Kyle who served four tours as a Navy SEAL in the Iraq War. The story begins with Kyle in war and shows his struggles not only physically but mentally as well. During one of his tours he even gets criticized for killing too many people. Despite this, Chris Kyle becomes one of the deadliest snipers in American history with over 160 confirmed kills, 255 claimed kills and over 50 stated unconfirmed kills. He also had more than 15 honorees from his Medal Of Honor commendation to his Silver Star which is a record among U.S soldiers for getting that many honors during their time as a sniper. Even though some may be critical of the movie due to its subject matter it at least deserves some credit for showing an accurate depiction of what life was like as a soldier serving overseas on mission after mission.
9. District 9 -
District 9 was a science-fiction film released in 2009 about an extraterrestrial race of insect like creatures who arrive on Earth looking for refuge due to their dying planet. At first, the aliens are treated well and get taken into South African refugee camps but things quickly start to get out of hand when the people living near the camp decide that they don't want these "prawns" living next door. The aliens are forced to move away from the refugee camp because of this but find themselves scattered all over Johannesburg without much food or water which leads them to cause havoc all over town while trying to survive even though it's banned. The movie takes itself seriously which is makes it compelling instead of cheesy like most action movies can be. This movie is mostly memorable for its intense final act which has some of the best fight sequences you'll ever see in an action film.
8. Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
The first on this list to be part of a franchise, Return of the Jedi was released in 1983 and followed on from where The Empire Strikes Back left off with Luke Skywalker going into battle against Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine to save his friends Han, Leia and Chewbacca. What makes Star Wars so unique is that it isn't just a dumb action movie because there's a story behind why these people are fighting each other even though it does have some cheesy dialogue here and there. All six movies were directed by George Lucas and three of them made this list because he has a knack for directing action movies that create references for future movies.
7. Straight Outta Compton -
Straight Outta Compton is a biographical drama about the rap group N.W.A which stood for "Niggaz Wit Attitudes". The movie was released in 2015 and directed by F. Gary Gray who also directed the 2003 movie A Man Apart with Vin Diesel so you know it's going to deliver some great fight scenes. The story follows how Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella formed a gangster rap group after being inspired by Public Enemy and then selling millions of records worldwide with their debut album Straight Outta Compton which was even nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The group eventually disbands due to financial disputes among other things but they would reunite years later and even tour together as recently as 2016.
6. Captain America: Civil War -
Captain America: Civil War is an action movie that comes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it doesn't require any previous knowledge of the previous movies in order to fully understand what's going on thanks to its story being self-contained. In this movie, our hero Captain America goes up against Iron Man over whether superheros who act outside the law need to be brought under government control with Iron Man believing it's necessary while Cap believes everyone should just mind their own business. There are other characters in the movie who also have conflicting views about this issue but for me what makes this movie great is that it has some of the best action scenes you'll find in an action film starring superheros.
5. Mad Max: Fury Road -
One of the most popular movies released in 2015, Mad Max: Fury Road was an action heavy post-apocalyptic thriller where our hero played by Tom Hardy teams up with a woman named Charlize Theron to escape several gangs of warlords all over the desert wasteland they live in so I think it's pretty safe to say that if you like car chases then you're going to love this one. There were two previous films made starring Mel Gibson as "Mad" Max Rockatansky who lived in a world where the legal system had broken down and it was every man for himself. This new installment is directed by George Miller, who directed all four of the previous films, and what makes this movie different from the others is that it's not just an action film but also an interesting story despite being filled with some heavy violence.<br>
4. Jurassic Park -
When I first saw Jurassic Park when I was young, I didn't really know anything about dinosaurs other than they existed because there wasn't much TV or movies back then to learn more about them so seeing these gigantic dinosaurs come to life on screen looked so real that it blew my mind. At first glance you might mistake this as just another monster movie but what makes this a great action movie is that it has a simple yet interesting story behind why these dinosaurs are all over the island and how they might be brought back to life which will give you enough information to know why everyone's trying to escape from them. The main attraction of Jurassic Park other than the dinosaurs would have to be the incredible special effects that go into making them appear on screen because there was no CGI used in this film, everything was done using animatronics and stop motion animation which gives you a better idea of how big these creatures were compared to normal-sized actors.
3. Fury -
A war drama released in 2014, Fury follows a team of American soldiers who serve as tank drivers during World War II. Each one of them is on a mission to help take back control of Germany with these tanks by destroying German armor and supply lines. One day their tank gets hit by enemy fire which kills everyone inside except for the soldier played by Brad Pitt who takes over this new tank after its original crew was killed in action. This movie really does an excellent job at showing you the horrors of war where both sides are trying to kill each other no matter what, even if they're just regular soldiers like the ones you see in this movie, but none of that compares to seeing how cruel some people can be when they've been pushed into a corner thanks to the things they had to do.
2. The Dark Knight -
Released in 2008, The Dark Knight was a movie that most people didn't even think would be made because of its dark tone and overall storyline. For those who don't know, this takes place in a world where Batman is being blamed for crimes committed by a mysterious figure known as the Joker, which causes him to have to prove his innocence while also working with police commissioner Gordon played by Gary Oldman to try and stop the Joker from continuing his rampage through Gotham City so they can arrest him before he kills innocent people. The main attraction of this movie other than Heath Ledger's incredible performance as the Joker would have to be how well-developed Batman's character is especially with his relationship with district attorney Harvey Dent as it shows you what he hopes will happen if anyone found out his true identity.
1. The Lord of the Rings
The final installment to one of the greatest movie trilogies ever made, in this movie you'll see Frodo played by Elijah Wood alongside his loyal friend Samwise Gamgee who will try to destroy an item known as the ring which has the power to enslave everyone if they're not careful about how they use it. There are so many action scenes in this film that there's no way I could list them all here so I really do recommend taking a look at this amazing trilogy instead when you get a chance because what makes this saga so great is how well-developed each character is especially Aragon, Legolas, and Gimli who are all on a quest to destroy another ring which has the power to enslave everyone who uses it not just men.
