How to prepare for Thanksgiving Day
November is one of the best months to spend with your loved ones. Kids have already finished their school year and are now on holiday, workers have more free time for family activities instead of work. Your house probably became brighter and cozier during this season due to colorful flowers, shiny leaves, warm light during nights. Fruits that are ripe at this period are supposed to be the best food ever! Those are all great reasons why you should spend November inside your house... if not for Thanksgiving Day!
Thanksgiving Day
Don't worry, it's not too early to think about Thanksgiving because next month is gonna be here before you even notice it. This article will share some Thanksgiving day traditions with you as well as give useful tips on how to prepare for this wonderful day.
What is Thanksgiving Day?
It's an American holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Its purpose is to give thanks for the blessing received in the past year, whether it's harvest or other positive events. If you ask me, I think it's a great idea! After all, life without thankful hearts would be... well... something less than life! :)
Every family has its own Thanksgiving traditions… For example, some families say grace before they start eating their turkey dinner while others just prepare "toasts" instead of saying grace. Some people wear special clothes that have nothing to do with any kind of farm at all! As for me, every year I get out my best dress and shoes and get dressed up like a princess for this party! That's it - I just love to be pretty :)
What should you prepare before the big day?
The truth is that there isn't anything you have to do. If you think about Thanksgiving, all the traditions and activities around this holiday are optional. It's just a great excuse to gather your family and cook them a delicious dinner. However, if you want all your Thanksgiving plans to go smoothly, make sure you make a grocery shopping list in advance (check out my other article on how to save money when doing groceries ). Some supermarkets even offer deals to get people into stores earlier than usual because of increased demand during Thanksgiving weekend. It could also be useful if one of your friends or relatives is a great cook and would like to share their experience with you. There are plenty of Thanksgiving dinner ideas out there! I've picked my 3 favorite ones:
Pumpkin Pie (I couldn't find an image of this pie... If you know where I can get one, please let me know in the comments)
This pie is a great idea for Thanksgiving Day. It's not only delicious but also really cute! This pumpkin-shaped pie is made with cookie dough crust and it has chocolate chips inside. Don't forget to add some whipped cream on top to make this dessert look even more like a real pumpkin :)
Stuffed Turkey (again with no picture)
This turkey is stuffed with bread, eggs, chopped onion, celery leaves, rosemary, sage leaves, black pepper, salt. And the best thing about this recipe is that you don't have to be a master chef to cook it. I mean, I think you already know how to fry an egg! If not, nothing bad will happen if you skip this step and use only beaten eggs for stuffing :)
Pumpkin Pie (here we go again)
If you like pumpkin pie as much as I do, don't hesitate to try baking your own. This recipe takes a little time to make but it's definitely worth your effort... especially if you want people who drink alcohol to be nice and kind to others:) Got that? Either way - good luck with cooking! Just remember: It's always better to spend more time in the kitchen than on the street asking strangers "Please give me some money!" ;)
Thankful hearts never fail! Have a great Thanksgiving Day!
